Jeanne Hébuterne

Jeanne Hébuterne (1898 - 1920) was a French artist and Amedeo Modigliani`s common-law wife.

Jeanne, a very beautiful girl, was born in Paris in 1898. She was introduced to the artistic community in Montparnasse by her brother André who wanted to become a painter. She wanted to pursue a career in the arts, and because she was talented in drawing, she decided to study at the Académie Colarossi.

She was introduced to Amedeo Modigliani in 1917. She became his muse and they were deeply in love. Their daughter Jeanne was born in 1918. In the spring of 1919 Jeanne became pregnant again. But in the same time Modigliani was suffered from tuberculous meningitis; on 24 January of 1920 he died.

Jeanne, totally distraught, threw herself of the fifth-floor apartment window the day after Modigliani`s death. She killed herself and her unborn child.

She was interred in Pére Lachaise Cemetery with her love.
